Methodology

Useful information. Honest about the unknowns.

Draft for the preview. Wording follows our US legal reference list and will be finalized by the site owner before launch.

What counts as an AI agent

We list mobile apps (iOS or Android) and show how much each one does on its own. Agents work at one of two levels:

We also list assistants: apps that answer and suggest but don’t carry out the task themselves. They are labelled “Assistant”, so you can tell them apart from agents. Single-task tools (translate this, remove a background) are not listed.

How we test

A person on our team installs the app on a real phone and runs a written test script for the task it claims to handle. We are testing apps one by one. Until an app is tested it says “Developer states · Not yet tested by us”, and everything shown comes from the developer’s official pages. Tested apps show “Tested by us” with the date, device and app version, their results are labelled “Observed”, and they are listed first.

How apps are chosen

We list apps by the everyday task they help with. An app is added to a need only when a source supports it, and a need gets its own comparison page only when at least two apps can be compared. Placement is not a ranking.

What the labels mean

Developer states
The app’s developer says this on an official page or store listing. We have not tested it.
Observed
We saw this ourselves, for example by installing the app or opening the pricing page in a stated region.
Not yet verified
We could not find reliable information yet. Unknown never means free, available everywhere, or unsupported.
Conflicting sources
Official sources disagree. We show the disagreement instead of picking one.
Needs recheck
The last check is older than our refresh window, so this needs to be checked again.

“(checked at group level)” means a source covers a group of facts together rather than each fact on its own.

Sources and dates

Every profile lists its sources, including our own test notes, and the date each was checked. Prices are shown only from an official pricing page, with currency, billing period and region; we never convert currencies.

Independence

This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any app it lists. App names belong to their owners and are used only to identify the apps. No app pays to be listed, to appear higher or to be described differently. If that ever changes, the relationship will be disclosed next to the listing it affects, not only here.

How results are ordered

There are no star ratings, reviews, download counts or ranked lists. Search results are labelled “Relevant matches”: apps whose evidence meets all your conditions come first, then apps where some data is missing, then by name. Need pages list apps alphabetically. We list specialist apps. Flagship apps from household-name brands (for example ChatGPT or Gemini) are not listed: this is an editorial choice, not based on any payment or partnership. We also don’t list apps rated 18+ in the app stores, AI companion apps, or crypto apps. Links to app websites include a ref tag naming this site, so developers can see visits came from here; we are not paid for clicks or listings.

Accessibility

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA: every page works with a keyboard, has visible focus, readable contrast in light and dark mode, and is tested with automated accessibility checks. If something is hard to use, please tell us through the submission form (a dedicated accessibility contact will be published before launch).
